always been a fan of arch avenger pro http://www.kvraudio.com/news/4548.html. some fun leads, and it's dirty, which i like.

I'll keep adding to this...

Analogue Warefare 1, 2 & 3 - this stuff owns you
http://www.amvst.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=2

Free Alpha 3 - really unique, you can do some cool stuff in your song when tweaking the settings
http://www.kvraudio.com/get/36.html

Algo StringSynth has awesome variety of classic synth strings perfect for mellow electronica or adding texture to your masterpiece
http://www.algomusic.net/freeware.html
(these 2 other free ones are alright but not outstanding and very little presets)

Organ-One - i love organs and this is a great one with a great variety of presets.

------

I'll post more later, but these (along with Arch Avenger Pro and Protoplasm21) are most of my current ToP Favorite free VSTs!

[I used Analogue Warfare 1 as the obvious analogue noise and alpha free as the lead in this]:

and Protoplasm21 as the background tremolo pad
and Arch Avenger Pro as the siren

my suggestions:
Schwa Olga
even though it's not really "free", there is a demo version which only has one single restriction compared to the licensed ver: a short nag-screen everytime you open the GUI for the 1st time.
if you ask me, this is really no problem - even on the long run!

if you have problems reading the pseudo-russian GUI, click he white-tie-symbol on the very left of the synth's GUI.
you should then see some glued stickers with english terms ;)

there are versions for Windows and OSX.
unfortunately the OSX demo isn't available (yet).

Audjoo Helix
four oscs and some really decent routing and modulation capabilities.
it's really a very good and feature-rich synth for being free imo.

it's available for both, Windows and OSX.

I've really been liking xhip lately:
http://xhip.cjb.net/

It's a subtractive synthesizer with two oscillators. It's still in beta so there isn't a "real" GUI, but I still love it.
