round 40 ideas

Postby attwad » Thu Jun 18, 2009 8:00 am

Hi there,
time to brainstorm on the next theme if it's not already decided, in that my my humble excuses...

I was thinking of a 40seconds complete song for the 40th round...

what do you think? any other good/better/lame ideas?

anyway looking forward to entering this round! missed the last one...

I think 40 seconds would be too short. Be frustrating for most of us, plus it would only take a few minutes to listen to all the songs :(

My only (crap) idea is that the songs have to not be in 4/4 time signature... But again that might be too limiting and discourage people from entering. Besides, we should wait for round 44 for that. :)

Yeah I agree it would be too short... will have to wait until a better idea pops up then ^^

How about we all come up with some song titles and we have a go at fitting the song to someone elses title?

That sounds fun... Be better as an unofficial theme though because I doubt there'd be more than 5 entries if it was the official theme

I'll contribute a couple to start:

"Abandoned"
"Wetworks"
"Acoustic shock"
"Dangerous Probability"

I'll call your titles and raise you.. 'frail for free' 'forgotten district' 'past the apex' 'sliver of light' 'angelic twilight' 'things always seem better in the morning' :)

haha well thought one!
I think there should be more than 5 entries even if it was an official theme, we just need a way to assign/choose the themes to each person participating... which could be a pain :-(

I'll go with:
"speedy reverse"
"Lost in pitch dark"
"A dreaming journey"

how about a sample pack made w/ sfxer? or maybe just the program itself?

Title ideas:
"The rain must fall"
"light of darkness"
"progress"

Theme idea: Would it be possible to do a round using standalone midi controlled softsynths rather than VSTs. I know there are a lot available for Linux, but I don't know how it is on the windows side of things.

Would be fun to enter using the ALSA modular synth and Bristol... **dreams**

Listening to the demo mp3 it sounds mostly like blips and bloops and not very musical. Is it possible to have it make music tones?

yes, and not very hard at all. Here's a cute little track I made the other day using only samples from that program:

it's kind of a crap shoot, but if you hit the randomize button enough times you are bound to find a snare, hat, kick, etc and It's easy to make synths by looping parts of sounds. You can also tweak the parameters if you are so inclined, but I think it's more fun just to gamble.

Then again, if it's too chippy for some I will understand : )

Yeah I mean you are just chipping it anyway ... May be good to have a chip round with it

That's how I do most Battle of the Bits Mix rounds, by "chipping" samples, because the pack usually only has one vocal and a drum.

I'm going to try to make "Past the Apex" because a while ago I did a tune called "Waiting At the Starting Line" and somebody suggested that I write about the rest of the race.
