Scene Remixes

Scene Remixes

Postby Airmann » Sun Jun 21, 2009 7:46 am

Hello guys,

I've a suggestion for a Theme:

"Remix a favorite intro/demo scene song"

Must be at least 3 years old.
Samples 'n Instruments:

- e.g. vst SID Emulator or so allowed
- e.g. Ultimate Soundtracker St-00,st-01 original Samples allowed
- Samples of Original modules allowed to be reused
- Vox and Natural Instr. allowed

Mix must be at least 30% different from Orig. song

What do you think ? I think Remix64.com would love to share our songs.

Personally I'm not really a fan of remixing...

I've thought about doing something for remix.kwed.org before even coming around here, the problem I have is that I think I don't have enough familiarity with the underground stuff. I'd want to do tunes that have been done to death like Crazy Comets and Thing On a Spring, and the stuff I really, really like (the Tim Follin stuff for example) would actually sound worse after the rearrangement because the original is really that good.

Well for my part my knowledge of "the scene" is pretty limited too but I would very like to try to remix some of the few songs I've heard!

Quick crash course:

Go download some mods by Purple Motion, Jester of Sanity, Leviathan, and Skaven.

Enjoy :)

What exactly would qualify—or not?

OK, ok, if you post these plugins :) (In a sample pack so everybody has the same plugins)

I would have to say as long as it is a mod/s3m/xm/it/rns (etc) tracker file that is older than 3 years, it should count. (As long as it wasn't commercially released in a game or something).

Anybody else have any say?

I'm up for either theme (this one or the song title one) but I think this one would be bit more fun.

Dude, I checked out Purple Motion. I was quite amazed at the quality. And also embarresed about how much better it sounds than mine. Considering the gear used!

Well he's like the Michael Jackson of the demoscene, so don't feel bad -- the majority of other old mods pale in comparison to his

My favorite of his songs -- "Minimum Velocity". Very cool, he only used 2 channels. :)

Wow ! Seems that I missed some entries here during the last days :-)

A true demo scene or cracktro / intro song or just anything from scene.org should be ok. There's tons of stuff out there. Shouldn't be too hard to find something nice and suitable. BTW: ripped game soundtracks should be allowed, too. They just belong to the scene - but copyright shouldn't be forgotten.

AMIGA Resources:
http://amp.dascene.net/home.php

My personal Michael Jacksons of the 4channel scene are Karsten Obarski, Romeo Knight (still active), Dr. Awesome (still active as musician), SLL, Bit Arts (still active), and Uncle Tom (incredible music).

Karsten is the author of the first tracker ever: THE ULTIMATE SOUNDTRACKER. I bought his Amiga program (yes I bought it !) 21 year ago and created my first bloddy .mod files. I even used the original Replay Assembler Routine for a small demo.

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_Soundtracker

Karsten made a lot of epic tunes at that time, which initiated tracking and started the whole thing. Still love the songs.
