i love urban exploration so this was pretty interesting. this guy has all these pictures and descriptions of tours he's taken in the abandoned sections of the london subway system :D

this guy is pretty freaking hardcore.
he's going to take a hot air balloon 130,000 feet into the air (on the border of SPACE) and then jump out, setting the record for highest manned balloon flight, longest freefall, and also fastest freefall by a person, also breaking the sound barrier in the process.
i guess it would take some balls to make that jump!

interesting!!

http://www.dvlabs.com/

some kind of new video streaming technology. what you need to notice is how high quality the video is (perhaps to be about 640x300 something resolution, which is pretty good for web streaming), but also how quickly it loads. nice!

hopefully this will become the standard and not the shit quality that we see on youtube

"the human camera"

http://www.infectiousvideos.com/index.p ... cr=hotplay

this is a savant guy who can barely talk, but he flew over rome in a helicopter for 45 minutes and he draws an entire to-scale detail panorama of rome on a 5 yard piece of paper.

interesting. supposedly, the smarter you are, the longer this takes to figure out.
as the story goes...
"While some students would solve the problem right away, others would struggle all semester. It had taken Dr. Duke well over a year himself, and he would always explain that the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out."

i figured it out in about 20 minutes so i must be pretty stupid :(

http://cgi.ebay.com/1200-BAUD-MODEM-CAR ... dZViewItem

what the fuck/???

this is the same type of card that i found at a local computer store with a price tag of "$0". the same type of card i used on my 8088 to dial into bbs'es back in 1992, and yes it was outdated as fuck even by then!

so why is it $75 now? is anybody really that nostalgic?

Jim: Bob! I had a great idea! let's setup an old style PC Board BBS for nostalgia's sake!

Bob: OK Jim! great idea! but i don't have any modems sitting around anymore

Jim: Shit! are you for real? you don't have any old systems you could pull them from?

Bob: Lost them all in the fire of 1999 :(

Jim: OK. Let me look on ebay. OH JUNK! check out what i found! a 1200 baud for $75!!!! dude these were like $200 back in 1985

Bob: Sounds like a deal. let's get a pair!!

... ( a couple of days pass )

Jim: wow. we can write messages to each other but we have to wait 45 seconds for all the text on the screen to refresh. but that's ok. this is so exciting! it makes me feel like i did when i was 18 again!! PIONEERS IN THE DIGITAL WORLD! SCREW ALL THIS INTERNET BABBLEFLOB. WE WERE THE ORIGINAL BLOGGERS. WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE EMOTICONS BACK THEN, WE HAD TO USE WORDS!!! POWER TO THE OLD SCHOOL!!!

Bob: i want my $75 back. i hate you.

..................

yeah. wow. why did i make up/ write that scenario???
