Ahem, forums ;)

Sonicade has already said he quite enjoyed tracks by Necros http://modarchive.org/data/downloads.ph ... MENSIO.MOD

and Elwood http://modarchive.org/data/downloads.ph ... weetdre.xm

Can't say that I remember either of those, but in listening, they are pretty good... brings back the good old days. :)

Here a few of the ones I enjoyed in my early days...
Spring by Purple motion. So atmospheric, absolutely a classic

Wizardry by Jester of Sanity. Love this song soo much :)

Minimum velocity, also by Purple motion, I was so impressed with how good this sounds considering it only uses 2 channels...

I wish I remember the name of the prog I used to listen to mods on the old 486, but when we first got it, I didn't even have a soundcard, and it output to the PC speaker, which was on the bottom of the computer. My dad built me a little wooden platform to put the computer on, so I could hear it better, and I would lay on the floor for hours with my head up against the computer listening to mods :D

Oh yes, I will say it:
REED RICHARDS
knightly.mod: one of my first scene mods. I didn't realize how awesome this one was until later when I started tracking.

oh, and I would NEVER miss an opportunity to pimp darkhalo:

TOTALLY got me addicted to drum n' bass, since I was a bit young for the movement at the time...

I missed all the early tracker scene.. never had me own comp until early 2000s, *sob*

but retrospectively i've been pleased to see a lot of artists whose music I liked were trackerers...

e.g. brothomstates/dune -- http://chiptunes.org/files/Artists/Dune/zzzbla.xm

and venetian snares, bogdan raczynski... i've no idea where to find old mods of theirs though..

and the merck crew.. machinedrum, lackluster, blamstrain.. sure they are/were all old trackers

and proswell -- a former psycler!

Here's an .it file I love:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P0RMKUUI

It's by Proswell and Vexion (aka Ilkae)

Proswell fans need to go to http://www.inpuj.net/ and download Cyclothymia right away!

Ilkae still uses Modplug to make all of his tracks 8)
