Interesting ! Never did much with gates. Want to learn more. Is this a common technique to ged rid of reverb ?

BTW: I also prefer dry stuff, but I didn't notice the reverb so much.

Gate on a big, long reverb was a common 80's effect, made famous by Hugh Padgham on Phil Collins' drums. The objective is to create the big reflections you'd hear if you were in the same room as a person playing a drumset, complete with crosstalking, but without all the wash you'd get by capturing long echoes. Take a large hall reverb with a long decay, then put a gate after the reverb so it gently stops sounding after a half a second or so. All the drum sounds should go through the same reverb, as cross-talking is a deliberate part of the effect.

Really obvious (and overdone) example, after about 2:28:

Phil's drums before working with Hugh Padgham, doesn't have the effect, provided for contrast:

Wahey, color me wrong about no real world applications. Interesting stuff there chunter. I'm sure Paul would be interested in this, because he's a huge Phil Collins fan.

Makes me want to try this effect in a song now :)

Yeah, nice to see a non-Renoise entry ranking well.

There's nothing wrong with that, it will just give the impression that the drums are synthesized, which works for virtually all of us here.

I think most of us did pretty well with the samples.
