Let's get this thing going!

Tracking will begin on 2011-05-04 00:00:00 CST (Same time the main compo tracking period ends)
Submission Deadline is 2011-05-20 00:00:00 *CST
Voting will take place from 2010-05-21 00:00:00 *CST to 2010-05-24 00:00:00 *CST. Prizes will be awarded after 5/24! What kind of prizes? I can't say yet but don't get your hopes up
:D

This time we'll have a week and a half, which includes 2 full weekends... So enough time for everybody to get something together.

Rules:

1) Write an original song of any style for NES (Famicom) using a tracker program. (Tracker = note column, effects column, etc)

2) The platform you track it on does not matter (Windows, Linux, original hardware, emulator). Popular NES trackers are Famitracker (Windows NES/NSF tracker) and NTRQ (Native NES tracker)

3) No filesize/time limitations.

4) Samples are allowed this time! (In addition to NES synthesis) You are welcome to try to put vocals in the 1 bit of sample space.

5) Submitting guidelines: You will need to upload a rendered mp3 of your submission and your source file (Whatever format the tracker exports)

6) You will have to use your own webspace. You will Private Message the following information to me:
{Artist}
{Title}
{Tracker used}
{mp3 link}
{Source file link}

7) After the deadline, I will make a forum post with all the links (the "link votepack"). After the tracking period is over, you will vote for your top 3 (subject to change depending on how many entries) by submitting a Private Mesasge to me via the forums.

8.) Votes will be tallied, and super excellent prizes will be awarded!

How's everyone coming along? I haven't started anything yet. But I hope to get started soon.

No real start yet. Only fiddling around with Famitracker, there seems to be some problem under Wine: pressing enter in any text field causes part of the instrument selection and a few other interface widgets to disappear. Thankfully the shortcuts can be reconfigured.

And also, just found the Renoise color scheme, so now I'm ready to start. :)

..Gnahh..I can't do this anymore. :)
When I was younger I could start a tracker and some simple ideas just flew in.
Now I need to have thought of the idea before so I can just hack it in.
Not prepared for this round ;)

Still I'll try..let's see what happens. Too exciting and promising round.

Oh, good to hear!!!

:D :D :D :D

But seriously, you not entering is not an acceptable outcome.

Me personally, I haven't even started yet. I better get busy!

I guess we can consider a deadline extension if there aren't enough entries by the date. What does everyone think of that?

This is the slack compo right here :)

Started my tune during lunch today. I've fleshed out the basic song structure & chord progression. Now for some percussion & melodies 8)

OK, it turns out I don’t actually like tracking with my PSP very much. It’s tedious to use the D-Pad to enter notes and change around to different portions of the screen. So I’ve spent the last 2 lunches at work using Renoise on my work PC for round 58. It turns out Renoise works without installation so I’ve got Renoise and the samplepack on my ipod and using it as a USB storage device. Benefit: I can render progress straight onto the ipod for listening after lunch is over :)

I’ll still straggle to get something together for this compo, but it may be mostly sucky :(

Let’s do the 3x3x3 compo next time

It's tedious to D-pad track but the LSDJ guys seem to do alright with it... it's a bit easier once you get some notes down, but mostly, I dislike it too.

I finished something, PM sent.
