how to use the signal follower for compression sidechain?

Postby tenfour » Fri Mar 12, 2010 12:50 pm

i have read all over that the signal follower is awesome because now we can sidechain.

but... the renoise compressors don't have a sidechain input. and the signal follower only automates parameters, not audio signals. so basically i am confused because i don't see any way to use this to sidechain.

Any advice?

Funny enough is that the most common sidechain compression in Renoise is done without any compressor device :p!
You just invert the min and max of the SF and hook the output signal to a gainer in the to-be-compressed (send)track. (I've found out here: http://www.renoise.com/board/index.php?showtopic=23278&st=0). Just try it.

Have to admit:

After beeing first picky about the missing "real" sidechain support, I think now that the signal follower is a big innovation and a tool that cries for creative usage like no other.
