.bz format listed under acceptable compression formats

.bz format listed under acceptable compression formats

Postby Taiyal » Fri Apr 24, 2009 12:23 pm

Bzip is deprecated (due to patent restrictions) and has been replaced by Bzip2 (.bz2). This has been the case for quite a while, so anyone currently using bzip compression would almost definitely be using the bz2 compression format.

bz2 *not* an accepted compression format

Postby Taiyal » Fri Sep 25, 2009 8:32 am

I just tried to upload a bz2 earlier (smaller than gz, saves bandwidth), but the script said it had to be a .bz, which is an outdated / legally unusable (due to patents) format (which was replaced by bzip2).
